February 2011
- 2010 was a record year. Financial results for the year ending May 2010 show a 40% increase in turnover. With a strong forward order book and increased engineering capacity, further growth in sales and net profit will be seen in 2011.
- PDL win Technip order. PDL engineers to provide advanced non-linear FEA engineering support to the DUCO engineering team on a subsea umbilical end fitting development programme.
- PDL awarded a significant Tenaris Contract. PDL engineers to provide complementary finite element analysis support to the Tenaris engineering teams in Milan and Houston on the Hydril 563 Connector certification programme.
- PDL joins the FPAL supplier database. The move is in preparation for an approach to a number of the leading prime oil and gas EPC contractors in 2011, where FPAL registration is a pre-requisite requirement of their vendor assessment and vendor approval process.
- PDL attend the Subsea 2011 conference and exhibition at the AECC in Aberdeen to hear of the future subsea work plans from Shell, BP and Statoil and to gain an insight into the new and emerging technologies that are being developed to validate the structural integrity of new and aged subsea assets.
January 2011
- PDL wins a significant BEL Valves order. PDL engineers to provide advanced FEA support to the BEL Valves engineering team on a fast track subsea valve qualification programme of work.
- PDL joins DECOM North Sea as part of their strategy to align their significant nuclear decommissioning and subsea engineering experience to the emerging decommissioning activities on aging oil and gas production assets on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
- PDL awarded a further FMC Technologies contract. PDL engineers to provide advanced FEA support to the FMC Technologies engineering team on the Total E&P Tormore and Laggan field development project.
- The PDL expansion continues. Daniel Ferrol joins the PDL engineering team in the role of Structural Engineer.
- PDL wins NP Aerospace contract. PDL engineers to provide advanced composite finite element analysis support to the NP Aerospace engineering team throughout 2011.
December 2010
- PDL makes a huge capital investment in new ANSYS FEA and CFD software. This latest investment provides the new analysis capability and the additional analysis capacity that the PDL engineers will need to support their customer projects throughout 2011 and 2012.
- PDL awarded an Engineering Services framework agreement from FMC Kongsberg Subsea A.S. in Norway. PDL to provide ongoing engineering support to the FMC engineering team in Kongsberg
- PDL awarded a second significant contract from First Subsea (FSS). PDL engineers to provide advanced Mathcad® and ANSYS® FEA support to the FSS engineering team on the Goliat DBSC programme of work.
November 2010
- PDL attend the Shell Brent Decommissioning Event at Durham County Cricket Club.
- PDL awarded PE Composites Ltd (PECL) contract. PDL engineers to provide advanced composite FEA engineering support to the PECL engineering team.
- PDL attended the RenewableUK 2010 conference and exhibition at the SECC in Glasgow.
October 2010
- PDL awarded a significant contract from the National Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC). PDL engineers to provide advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineering analysis support to the NaREC engineering team on the WP3 Numerical Modelling project.
- PDL and ANSYS CFX engineers will develop a CFD model for NaREC that is capable of characterising the predicted flow within a given subsea terrain and the predicted resultant loads acting upon a proposed tidal turbine design in varying sea state conditions.
- PDL awarded FMC Kongsberg Subsea A.S. contract. PDL engineers to provide advanced finite element analysis support to the FMC engineering team in Kongsberg (Norway) on the OTIS connector project.
September 2010
- PDL awarded a second Eurofighter contract. PDL engineers to provide ongoing engineering design support to the Lightfoot Defence Ltd led consortia on the Eurofighter Interim Solution project.
- PDL win First Subsea contract. PDL engineers to provide detailed design and design validation support to the First Subsea engineering team on the ARC project.
August 2010
- PDL engineers to support the International Thermonuclear Reactor (ITER) project. In partnership with Assystem UK and Assystem France, senior engineers from PDL will provide advanced thermal FEA support to the Fusion4Energy (F4E) ITER project in Cadarache (France) over the next 6 months. PDL engineers will be responsible for the FEA design verification of the main ITER cryostat pressure vessel.
- Active Offshore Services (AOS) underwater trials validate the PDL Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis predictions. Underwater trials performed by AOS engineers with a novel subsea cleaning system confirm excellent correlation between the advanced CFD analysis predictions undertaken by PDL engineers and the actual test data.
July 2010
- PDL win IHC Engineering Business contract extension. PDL engineers to provide ongoing engineering support to the IHC EB engineering team on the Technip NPV project.
June 2010

- Paul Charlton is appointed to the NOF Energy Board. PDL managing director, Paul Charlton, is voted onto the NOF Energy Board as non-executive director at the NOF Energy Annual General Meeting held at Wynyard Hall on the 17th June 2010.
May 2010
- PDL awarded HERTEL contract. PDL engineers to provide advanced ANSYS AutoDYN blast simulation support to the HERTEL engineering team on the Ballistic Shelter programme. PDL engineers to work alongside the HERTEL-led consortia partners to validate the ability of the proposed shelter design to withstand a number of ballistic threats.
- PDL awarded a further Halliburton contract. PDL engineers to provide structural engineering support to the Halliburton engineering team on the SPHU programme. Engineers will validate the ability of the current SPHU frame to accommodate an increase in payload and determine the resultant stresses in the SPHU frame during transport, load out and subsea deployment operations.
- The PDL Quality Management System (QMS) retains a clean sheet. The PDL QMS sails through the BSI Management Systems external audit for a 7th consecutive year with no non-conformities identified, no opportunities for improvement tabled and no observations made.
