PDL our markets

Working for PDL

The success of PDL is entirely based upon the quality, passion and integrity of our staff. We highly value and respect each member of our team. We aim to provide excellent working conditions, professional and personal development and encourage team building by facilitating volunteering opportunities, social events and supporting staff taking on sporting or other challenges.

Professional Development

As a company we are proud of our significant investment in the development of our engineers. In 2011 we initiated The Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Monitored Professional Development Scheme. Engineers are allowed time with in their working hours to complete projects for their quarterly reports. The scheme has been very successful and we now have 3 fellows, 9 chartered engineers and 14 developing engineers.

“Because of this wealth of experience at PDL, I have been able to gain my Chartered engineer status successfully, with most competencies fulfilled in my usual day to day role.”

Your career path with PDL

Graduate engineers following our MPDS spend around 4 years working on the scheme  gaining a wide range of experience that leads to gaining Chartered Engineer status. After  further experience, developing specialist skills and gaining management experience you would progress to gaining Fellowship status with IMechE. In terms of career progression this means that engineers joining the company are able to progress to Senior and Principal Engineers.

Work placements for undergraduates

We run a number of placement opportunities for undergraduates studying typically mechanical engineering, structural engineering, aeronautical engineering, marine engineering or mathematics.

The main placement period is over the summer period and it usually lasts between 6-12 weeks, however, we do run shorter placements at Christmas and Easter and we also do 1 week awareness sessions throughout the year.

Social

PDL has a thriving social and sporting scene.  See some examples here

Travel

Having offices in Houston and Singapore there are plenty of opportunities to travel and experience engineering around the world as well as in Europe and the UK. Some of engineers spend time embedded in our clients companies for periods of time which also gives experience of different working environments and ways of working.
