The annual Tyndale Sport Awards were held on Sunday evening in the local leisure centre, recognising sporting achievement in the region. PDL engineer Elizabeth was nominated for the SCA "Unsung hero" for services to sport for her role as junior coordinator at the local rowing club (Hexham Rowing club). Elizabeth said, "It was a privilege to make the short list, with the award going to a very worthy winner who had been helping for 50 years! "
What Elizabeth failed to say was that she has freely given hours and hours of her time with junior rowers and has increased the junior membership many times over. She has secured a sustainable junior section for the first time since the club split into two nearly 30 years ago.
Not only has Elizabeth given her time to the junior squad but she has also supported many senior members and has coxed many crews to help them take part in racing for the first time.
Well done Elizabeth!
