PDL engineers attended an employment skills forum at the Discovery School in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Discovery School is an industry driven technical school for 14-19 year olds which first opened its doors this academic year in September 2014. PDL engineers have already been involved in the creation of pulicity material prior to the schools launch and are now continuing to support the school by attending employer forum groups. This forum involved break out groups of employers consisting of representatives from the likes of Siemens, Dyer Engineering, Nissan and PDL discussing whether the employment skills the Discovery School are looking to develop in their pupils fulfill the requirements of industry. The next forum is in the academic Easter term and will include a review of how the suggestions made at this forum have been implemented. Such collaboration between industry and education can only bring great benefits to both sides.
